Protection from Solar Heat

Purpose. Solar-control and multifunctional insulating glass units for reducing solar heat gain — facades, curtain walls, roof skylights, and rooms with large glazed areas and high solar exposure.

Construction and properties. Uses glass with a solar-control coating (hard-coat — GOST 33017-2014, or soft-coat — GOST 33086-2014). Multifunctional glass combines solar-control and low-emissivity functions. The key parameter is the total solar energy transmittance (solar factor g): for multifunctional selective glass, typically 0.25–0.45; visible-light transmittance typically 40–80%.

Governing standards. GOST 33017-2014 (hard coating), GOST 33086-2014 (soft coating); determination of optical and energy characteristics — GOST R 54164-2010 (ISO 9050) (complies with Russian national standards, mandatory for the Russian market).

Points to note. Solar factor g and light transmittance are datasheet properties of the specific glass grade and thickness, not a single requirement applicable to all products. Where tinted/solar-control glass is used in the unit, account for the risk of thermal breakage — the glass is strengthened accordingly.
