Balustrades and Railings

Purpose. Glass balustrades and railings for stairs, balconies, terraces and panoramic glazing, made of laminated tempered glass — load-bearing and protective enclosing structures.

Construction and properties. Laminated glass built from tempered panes with a breakage-safety class no lower than CM3. Under GOST R 56926-2016: the tempered glass of the lower screen must be at least 6 mm, the inner laminated pane at least 8 mm. Horizontal loading on the balustrade is taken per SP 20.13330.

Governing standards. GOST 30826-2014, GOST R 54171-2010 (material); loads — SP 20.13330; enclosure glazing for residential buildings — GOST R 56926-2016 (complies with Russian national standards, mandatory for the Russian market).

Points to note. The requirements combine mechanical strength (loads per SP 20.13330) with breakage safety (CM class per GOST 30826/30698) — glass thickness alone is not sufficient; a confirmed protection class is required. For panoramic glazing in residential premises, also observe the balustrade height requirements of SP 54.13330.
