Canopies

Purpose. Glass canopies and awnings over entrance areas, made of laminated tempered glass (triplex) — architectural canopies, entrance zones of public and residential buildings.

Construction and properties. Laminated glass built from two or more tempered panes bonded with a durable PVB interlayer. Individual pane thickness is typically from 6 mm, with 2 or more layers. On breakage, fragments are retained by the interlayer (safe failure mode), and the structure retains residual load-bearing capacity. Breakage-safety class — CM, usually CM3–CM4 or higher.

Governing standards. GOST 30826-2014 "Laminated glass. Technical specifications"; loads and residual load-bearing capacity — calculated per SP 20.13330 (complies with Russian national standards, mandatory for the Russian market).

Points to note. For canopies it is essential to use tempered (not annealed) glass within the laminate, to ensure safe, fine fragmentation on failure. Residual load-bearing capacity after failure of one layer is confirmed by calculation or testing.
