Sound Insulation
Purpose. Noise-reducing insulating glass units for buildings near transport corridors, airports and noisy industrial facilities — reducing airborne noise entering the room.
Construction and properties. Sound insulation is improved through the use of panes of differing thickness (shifting resonance frequencies), larger cavities, and acoustic laminated glass (a special high-viscosity PVB interlayer). Airborne sound insulation index Rw (indicative): a standard single-chamber IGU — 28–31 dB; a double-chamber unit with differing pane thicknesses — 32–36 dB; with acoustic laminated glass — 40–45 dB and above.
Governing standards. GOST 24866-2014; sound-insulation test method — GOST 26602.3-2016. Requirements for glazing of residential buildings — GOST R 56926-2016 (complies with Russian national standards, mandatory for the Russian market).
Points to note. Rw is a property of the specific IGU formula, not of the glass grade alone. Differing pane thicknesses significantly increase Rw. A guaranteed value requires a test report for that specific formula under GOST 26602.3.
