Decorative

Purpose. Decorative architectural glazing — enamelled tempered facade panels (spandrel glass), acid-etched (frosted) glass, silk-screen printing, and laminated glass with decorative film or fabric interlayers. Used in facades, interiors, partitions and furniture.

Construction and properties. Enamelled spandrel glass — enamel applied before tempering (GOST 33891-2016); frosting — chemical or sandblasted; silk-screen printing — a partial enamel pattern; decorative laminated glass — film, fabric or mesh within the interlayer. The load-bearing glass retains the strength and breakage characteristics of the base GOST standard.

Governing standards. GOST 33891-2016 (enamelled spandrel glass), GOST 30698-2014 (tempering), GOST 30826-2014 (decorative laminated glass), body-tinted glass — GOST 32997-2014 (complies with Russian national standards, mandatory for the Russian market).

Points to note. Where an IGU includes enamelled spandrel glass or partially tinted glass, all panes in the unit must be strengthened (GOST 24866-2014, clause 9.28) due to the risk of thermal breakage.
